New Online Programs for Young Playwrights & Actors
Schools and arts organizations have done an excellent job adapting to the Covid-19 world of quarantine and social distancing. With little to no training, teachers and creatives have moved their work online to keep creativity and knowledge flowing. This has given rise to a number of new writing-based programs for young theatre artists in the United States and abroad.
This week, I have learned of two brand new opportunities: one in Maine, one in the United Kingdom. You can check them out here:

This week, I have learned of two brand new opportunities: one in Maine, one in the United Kingdom. You can check them out here:
- Maine Youth Playwriting Challenge @ Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine
- Miniver Theatre Minute Monologue Challenge in London
The program in Maine is specifically for students under age 18 who live in the state of Maine. There does not appear to be a deadline, so you will want to contact them directly if interested. For the rest of us, there are a series of playwriting videos provided by the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine that may be helpful. Definitely check it out!
Unfortunately, at the time of this posting the deadline has passed for the Minute Monologue Challenge at Miniver Theatre. This was a unique opportunity that tasked students to not only write a script, but to perform it, too! We can hope that there will be another program offered soon at Miniver, or at another theatre close to you. Playwriting programs like these are fairly simple to manage via the internet, so let's hope more organizations will follow suit.
If you run a program for kids, or know of one, please contact me with details. I am happy to send that information along.
Keep writing!
